Laval is no longer a simple suburb of Montreal but an important economic and cultural pole of North America. Because the city’s image no longer matched its big-city vision, we were asked to review its strategic positioning and redesign its brand image to increase appeal and pride among its residents.

Focus on difference

Laval is an administratively unified island-city, a key differentiator to build on. Yet Laval isn’t well known. People know the name because it’s the third largest city in Quebec, but stereotypes and prejudices abound. We decided to show exactly how Laval is different from other places.

How’s it different?

The launch campaign emphasized the city’s sometimes eccentric and surprising characteristics. The result? A complete success. Not only was the tone and colourful illustrative approach well received, the fresh brand identity boosted pride among Laval residents as it authentically reflected their city’s new aspirations.
